Many Canon original ink cartridges and ink tanks are easy to refill so you don't really need any refillable cartridges. You can find a refill kit here and just refill the cartridges that came with your printer. Even the latest model original ink tanks (eg PGI520 & CLI521) can be refilled, if you have no other choice, but refillable ink tanks can make refilling easier... They look similar to genuine Canon ink tanks (1/2 sponge, 1/2 ink), but are fully transparent to make refilling easier. Fill hole already in place - no need to drill. Reusable outlet clip included with each tank. Most refillable ink tanks come with auto-reset chips. You don't need a chip resetter. Latest refill friendly 520/521 ink tanks include auto-reset (ARC) chips. No chip resetter or disabling of the ink monitor is required. Software ink levels reset back to full when the ink tank is removed from printer and reinserted. The 520/521 refillable cartridges/chips are compatible (work in) Canon Pixma iP3600, iP4600, iP4680, iP4700, MP550, MP560, MP620, MP630, MP640, MP980, MP990, MX860, MX870 etc. If your printer model is not listed here, please contact us to confirm compatibility. NOTE: Don't expect accurate ink level indication with ARC ink tanks. The current Canon 520/521 ARC chips reset every time the printer is turned off, not only when a cartridge is removed & reinserted. If you print only few pages at a time you may not notice the software ink levels drop at all. To prevent running out of ink - remove all ink tanks and top up as required regularly. Don't rely on the ink indicators! One advantage of the 520/521 refillable ink tanks (over refilling Canon tanks) is that the fill plug is recessed into the tank top. The tanks are same height as Canon originals, but as the "refillable" plugs fit flush with the top, they can't cause interference in printer. This can be a problem with refilling Canon original tanks unless special low profile (CP520) plugs are used - in late model Canons. Note: Ink tank pictured below is an earlier version that didn't have recessed plug. All current tanks do. NEW: Refillable GY (gray) ink tanks now in stock. Earlier Canon (original) ink tanks (BCI-3 & BCI-6) are easy to refill with a minor modification. It involves removing part of the top label on the tank, then using a supplied plug tool to remove existing fill hole plug from there. It only needs to be done once - the first time. All the tools and replacement plugs you need are supplied with refill kits. There are no refill friendly tanks available for BCI-3 or BCI-6. Print-rite and many other good quality generic BCI-3, BCI- 6, CLI-8, PGI-5, CLI521 and PGI520 ink tanks can also be refilled. Note: Refill kits for Canon ink tanks include rubber plugs intended for original Canon ink tanks. If you decide to fill generic cartridges, the plugs may not fit properly and you might have to use different plugs or choose another refill method. If you prefer to buy BCI-3 and/or BCI-6 Canon ink tanks already modified for refilling, or need new cartridges anyway, one of the "refill modified deals" with ink will get you on your way to refilling - even if you are technically challenged. It doesn't cost any more than if you were to buy the Canon cartridges and modify them yourself and at least this way you know, the cartridges (& refills) will work.
